RIVAHFEST BAKING CONTEST GUIDELINES

Theme: Americana 🇺🇸
(Entries should reflect classic American flavors, traditions, or patriotic inspiration.)


1. Divisions and Categories

Divisions:

Youth/Junior Division - Ages 8–15

Amateur Division - For bakers who don’t make most of their income from baking

Professional Division - For bakers who do make most of their income from baking

Categories:

Cakes - To include all cakes and cupcakes. One whole precut cake or 6 cup cakes required to enter. Presented on a clean white plate.

Pies - To include pies and pastries. One 9” precut pie required to enter. Presented in a disposable pie pan.

Cookies - To include cookies and bars. Twelve cookies or bars required to enter. Presented on a clean white plate.


2. Entry Requirements

  • Each participant may enter one item per Category.
  • All baked goods must be homemade.
  • Please include a typed or clearly written recipe with your entry (all allergens must be clearly listed)
  • Items must be ready to serve (pre-sliced if needed).
  • Bring your item at the temperature it’s meant to be served.
  • Everything must be completely edible.
  • Keep it family-friendly—no offensive decorations or themes.


3. Submission Details

  • Drop off Location: Contest Registration Booth in the basement of Tappahannock Memorial United Methodist Church, 345 Earl St., Tappahannock, VA 22560.
  • Drop-off Window: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Judging Starts: 1 p.m.
  • Winners Announced: 2 p.m.


4. Judging Criteria

Judges will be looking at:

  • Taste (of course!)
  • Texture & inside appearance
  • Overall look & presentation
  • Creativity
  • Level of difficulty


5. A Few Final Notes

  • Judges’ decisions are final.
  • Please follow basic food safety when preparing your dish.
  • Most importantly—have fun and show off your baking skills! 🧁
